Here
are some pictures that my brother Al took of the Big Muddy
tournament. This year had a total of 75 teams and next year it may be
opened to 100 teams. It was a well, organized tournament. I have to
say thanks to all the people who put it together and also the sponsors
of the tournament.
Our team: Chris, Al, Lawrence (team 5) finished 13th place.
We
just didn't find the two kicker fish we needed. The day before the
tournament Lawrence and I had four fish for 18 lbs (hind site). On
tournament day the big ones may have been there but no one seemed to
be catching them, many a boat came and left that morning, however we
just decided to stick it out, my thought was that this was a resting
area as the fish moved up river for the spawn.
At
12 o'clock sharp Lawrence caught our 9th fish, we were allowed to
catch 15 and weigh 9, now we were able to upgrading our catch, we did
upgrade one fish in that location. We had about a 1 1/2 hours to go
and decided to head back and try a couple different locations. The
first stop we tried was just too busy with many boats,, the area had
too much pressure. Then we went to our second location, which was
across from the Desert boat ramp (honey hole), there were a few boats
at the entrance so we went farther up into the slower current. I
figured maybe these fish where also pressured and moved into calmer
water, which they did, we upgraded two more fish and I was marking
some big fish using my Humminbird 987c SI (what a awesome depth
finder). But we ran out of time, I know if we had another 10 minutes
we could have pulled out 2 or 3 bigger fish, but that's why they call
it fishing and not catching
All our fish came from pitching jigs to shore, with the exception of
two, which my brother Al caught on a lindy rig.
